How to treat Disfellowshipped Ones?
by Thinking of Leaving ini work with this jw but was recently df.
prior to the convention i noticed the "sister" would talk to me normally as if i wasn't even df.
she just brushed it aside and i really appreciated her mature, professional behaviour towards me.. since she attended the dc however she's been acting cold towards me.

Since she attended the DC however she's been acting cold towards me. She hardly ever makes any jokes and when I try to she doesn't laugh much. What I want to know is what exactly was discussed at the DC this year about how to treat DF ones? I think I read somewhere that there was much admonition on it.

Shunning of ex JW family members imposed or optional?
by greendawn insome supportes of the jws argue that the wts does not impose on its followers to shun and disgrace ex jw family members, it leaves them the option to decide on the issue and some shun and others do not.
is that an honest arguments or is it like the blood issue where the wts supposedly doesn't impose on its members the decision to refuse blood?
for all we know the non shunning of ex jw family members except for absolutely necessary contact could lead a jw to dfing.

My mother is still a JW and I'm DF, she's never been counselled to shun me in any way, if anything they want her to encourage me to return to the org

Closing prayers at JW conventions
by TD ini've often thought that the closing prayer at jw conventions is a study in psychology in and of itself.. consider the typical scenario.
it's 4:30pm on a sunday afternoon.
people are tired and hungry.

I often wondered if I were the only one who felt like this. While standing for those prayers I would often sway back and forth because my high heels would be killing me lol, so boring, so glad it's over and I Don't have to endure them.

Do Witnesses have a Stronger Brotherhood than Christendom Does?
by gumby inthis came up in discussion between me and a fellow ex-dub buddy of mine.. as jw's, we had a brotherly unity.....at least many of us did.
if we were going somewhere and needed a witness to watch our place....even stay at our place, we had no reserves about being ripped off by them.
they were closer than some families members oftentimes and we even preferred being around them as opposed to "wordly" family members.

the congregation I was in for almost 15 years barely even knew I existed! They were all well off, lived in big houses and had their little Cancun getaways and golf sessions every year. They were known for being materialistic and had many many cliques. Yes they had a strong brotherhood among the ones who fit in but the ones who didn't were treated like crap!

really good question you ask. I have often wondered this myself and have even thought about going to another church to see what they're like.

Has your brain been re-wired with the "F" word?
by Gregor ini learned an interesting fact from my father's doctor when he was being treated for a stroke.
mom had mentioned that even though dad couldn't speak well enough to ask for a glass of water he could clearly say, "goddammit".
the dr. explained that epithets are from a different part of the brain and this area had not been affected by the stroke.. i found this very interesting.

I never liked listening to people swear, even in movies, now that I"m DF I still hate it. When I get mad I say shit and crap alot though, does that count?

Why would a young sister marry an old brother?
by JH ini recall a ms brother about 62 years old dating and marrying a sister about 30 years younger.
i respect their choice and if they are in love, well good for them.
but i don't think it's to the best interest of the younger one...... do jw's accept bigger age differences in marriage than other religions?.

I would of probably ended up marrying an old man if I didn't leave the Org. Imagine 34 and not married yet, the only ones available were divorced JW''s with kids and emotional baggage. And because there are 10 sisters to every brother, chances were pretty slim I was going to be the "chosen" one.
Now that I'm a worldling I have an array of choices. It's great! I no longer have to date some hypocritical, self righteous JW and force it to work just because I want to get married and there aren't that many to chose from.
My friend, still a JW, went on the internet and met this "brother" who was 20 years her senior. She was just over forty and he was over 60. They eventually met on a cruise after a year of communicating and guess what? The "brother" wasn't interested in her after he met her in person. What bothers me about this is that she really liked him (old and wrinkled up as he was) and would of considered marrying this man simply because she was 40, never married, no kids and still a virgin. The sisters in the borg have their work cut out for them. Thank God I'm out!

I'm just curious, who here believes the world might actually come to an end? I don't mean soon or anything like that, but does anyone believe that something IS actually going to happen?
